Although it may not appear research related at the outset, fantasy baseball involves intensive research. For many people, hours will be spent combing through players’ stats as fantasy drafts loom on the horizon, and the wheat must be separated from the chaff. Questions will be asked, such as “was Jose Bautista’s 2010 season really a fluke?” (my prediction? Yes), and “is Robinson Cano really more valuable than Dustin Pedroia?” will be agonized over. For my part, I thoroughly enjoy poring over these numbers. I test and build my own predictive models, with the intention and hope of building a more productive fantasy squad, leading to victory over all those that oppose me. Fantasy victory.
